Join the Museum at the annual New York AKC Meet the Breeds! Stop by to say hello at our booth where we will have family-friendly activities, giveaways, and more.
From Affenpinschers to Yorkshire Terriers and everything in between! AKC Meet the Breeds® gives dog lovers a unique opportunity to meet, play with, and learn about hundreds of dogs!

Please note that the Museum will be open for regular hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last admission at 5 p.m.) on January 27 and 28 during AKC Meet the Breeds.
The Museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will open for regular hours Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00am – 6:00pm with last admission at 5:00pm.
Close out your week by taking time to Paws to Read with the AKC Museum of the Dog! Join us in our library space on Friday afternoons for a dog-themed storytime complete with special toys and puzzles, art making, and learning about different breeds of dogs. This program is designed for kids 10 and under with an adult learning partner, but everyone is welcome.
Special for February 23: Join author/illustrator Erin McGill for a reading of her book, “If You Want a Friend in Washington: Wacky, Wild, & Wonderful Presidential Pets.” We will look at presidential pets and find out more about which breeds have made for some of the most notable First Dogs.

Here’s your chance to visit the AKC MoD with your favorite furry friends! But, get your tickets early! These events typically sell out and we cannot guarantee there will be space the day of the event.
Roam the galleries with fellow dog owners and lovers during our pet friendly hours. Free for Members at the Individual level and above; Non-Members $20 Humans, $5 Dogs.
All attendees will be required to sign a waiver before entry.
Special for February 2: Celebrate Lunar New Year!
Kick off the year of the dragon with your dog at the AKC MOD! Learn more about breeds that originated in Asia and take home some special treats in a lucky red envelope.
As part of the Museum’s initiative to reach more dog lovers, we will be hosting more virtual programming in 2024!
Members at the Virtual+ level and above are invited to join us for a virtual drawing class hosted by New Yorker cartoonist Lisa Rothstein. Lisa will showcase ways to accentuate special characteristics of various breeds and will use our attendees dogs as inspiration! Upon registration, you can submit a photo of your dog for a chance to see your pup featured in a drawing.

Bring your sweetheart, your dog, both, or neither to this celebration of love at the AKC MOD! Start your date night with tasty treats for humans and dogs and some fun, flirty photo ops. Then, try your hand–or paw–at creating an artwork featuring your favorite pup with instructor Jessica Ressler.
We will focus on your dog’s head for this art, so please prepare a clear photograph of the top half of their body. Further instructions are detailed in the confirmation email.

No school? No plans? No problem! The AKC Museum of the Dog has a week full of fun and exciting programming for dog lovers of all ages!
Get to know a dog breed at the AKC Museum of the Dog!
Each month we are highlighting one of the 201 recognized breeds in the American Kennel Club. You’ll learn the history of the breed as well as key characteristics of their anatomy and coat that help them meet the standard. Activities include art-making, stories and books, a collectable breed fact sheet, and an opportunity to meet a live dog.
Breed for February: Boston Terrier

When a healthy litter of puppies suddenly becomes paralyzed, all vets say to put them down. Refusing to go that route, a group of women begin an exhilarating journey to save the puppies. Watch Puppy Love, a film documenting this journey, at the AKC Museum of the Dog on Tuesday, February 20th at 4pm. Join Gail Gilbert and her dog Scout, a Labrador Retriever from this special litter of puppies, to watch the film and learn more about the sport of Tracking, Scout’s favorite pastime.

Take a deeper dive into our exhibitions and collections and take a guided tour of the AKC MOD. Education staff will guide you through the Museum pointing out unique works of art, telling the stories behind the champion dogs, and building connections from our canine collections to history in the Big Apple.
Tour will take place at 11:30am and 2:00pm. Space is limited.

We are building an art piece–and even we don’t know what the final product will look like! Drop into the Library at the AKC MOD and add an element to our collaborative art piece. Of course, it will be dog themed, but what will it look like in the end? You’ll have to visit to find out!

Celebrate dog mascots at this edition of Furry Friday! Learn which breeds represent which teams and what makes a great dog mascot. Also, participate in our own Museum tournament to find out which stuffed dog is the champion cuddler. Snuggle some stuffed pups from the shop and tell us which breed should win our version of The Big Dance.
