Celebrate Día de Muertos at the AKC Museum of the Dog by contributing a photo to our ofrenda. From September 17th-November 2nd, 2025, our ofrenda will be on display with a collection of photos featuring dearly departed dogs from our community. Come to the Museum to learn about this meaningful celebration of loved ones and its historical connection to dogs.
Día de Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a celebration to honor and commemorate the lives of the deceased and welcome the return of their spirits. As part of the celebration, families set up an ofrenda or altar to honor beloved family, friends, and pets who have passed away. These are typically decorated with photos of the deceased as well as symbolic elements such as flowers, butterflies, skulls and offerings to the spirits.
